ASANSOL DIVISION MODERNIZES SIGNALLING SYSTEM WITH MSDAC BETWEEN BARAKAR AND MUGMA FOR SAFER AND SMOOTHER TRAIN OPERATIONS

TNS, Asansol, 29 June 2025: Asansol Division of Eastern Railway has taken a major step toward enhancing train safety and reliability by modernizing its signaling system between Barakar and Mugma stations. The outdated AFTC (Audio Frequency Track Circuit) system has been replaced with the more advanced MSDAC (Multi Section Digital Axle Counter) system over a 7-km stretch—aimed particularly at ensuring smoother operations during the rainy season and other weather-related challenges.

This upgrade brings significant advantages for passengers. The earlier AFTC system often failed during heavy rainfall due to waterlogging and electrical interference, causing signal disruptions and delays. The newly installed MSDAC system is engineered to perform effectively in wet and high-moisture conditions, enabling safe and uninterrupted train movement even during continuous monsoon rains.

The new MSDAC setup now monitors 22 track sections between Barakar West Cabin and Mugma using 32 detection points. It provides real-time and highly accurate train movement data, helping station staff and controllers manage operations more efficiently. In addition to being more dependable in all weather conditions, the system also requires less maintenance.

To further strengthen operational safety, seven new signal posts have been installed along the Up and Down Goods Corridor lines in this section. These new signals will improve visibility, ease train traffic, and enhance overall control.

This route is vital for both long-distance and local train services. With the commissioning of this modern signaling system, passengers can expect improved punctuality, fewer disruptions during the monsoon, and a more reliable and comfortable journey.

With this important infrastructure upgrade, Asansol Division continues to prioritize passenger convenience and safety. By adopting modern, weather-resilient technology like MSDAC, the division is ensuring that train services remain reliable and punctual—even during the challenging monsoon months—delivering a smoother, safer, and more comfortable travel experience for all.
